A Morris Heights man and Bloods gang member has been convicted of murder, assault and other offenses stemming from a 2006 shooting that left two men dead and another wounded, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s office.

A jury convicted 22-year-old Gavin Murray of 1998 Davidson Ave., just north of West Tremont Avenue, for the deaths of Leonard Crockett and Jason Semidey, who were killed after Murray opened fire near the McKinley Houses in August of 2006.

The two victims, as well as a third man who was wounded, happened to be standing at the entrance to the housing complex on Tinton Avenue and East 161 Street when the shooting occurred. Two other men, the intended targets, fled unharmed.

The shooting was thought to be in retaliation for another that occurred nearby earlier that day. Police had been investigating the area for gang activity in the months before the incident, according to the Bronx DA.
Murray was found guilty of second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault, two counts of attempted murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. If consecutive sentences are imposed, he faces lives in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 24.

Murray is also is awaiting trial on two unrelated murders that occurred in 2005 and 2006, according to the DA.
