Summer Hiatus

July 3, 2008

The Mount Hope Monitor, usually published once a month, is taking August off. The next paper will come out on September 1. We’re going to use this time to focus on raising funds to secure the future of the Monitor and our new youth journalism program and help both grow.

What with the printing, translation, design, and delivery costs, the Monitor takes serious money to produce, and so we rely heavily on the generosity of others. In the last two years, two organizations in particular have been instrumental in supporting us, namely the New York Foundation and Mount Hope Housing Company. We couldn’t exist without them.

We also rely on advertising revenue. If you own a local business, one way you can help is to take out an ad. Call Jackie Acevedo at (917) 640-1003 for pricing information. You’ll be promoting your business and investing in your community newspaper, too.

If you’re a local resident, you can support us by visiting the businesses that advertise in our pages. And you can let us know what YOU think of the paper, and what YOU think we should be writing about. Feel free, also, to write a letter to the editor if you have an opinion on something you’ve read in the paper – we print virtually every letter we get. More input from readers will strengthen the paper, and open lines of communication among neighborhood residents. We think that’s important. You can e-mail

mounthopenews@gmail.com or snail mail Mount Hope Monitor, c/o Norwood News, 3400 Reservoir Oval East, Bronx, New York 10467.

The Monitor’s Web site will continue to be updated through July and August, so if you have Internet access, visit us online at www.mounthopenews.org. And check out the West Bronx Blog, your gateway to all things West Bronx, at www.westbronxnews.blogspot.com.

Have a wonderful summer!

The staff at the Mount Hope Monitor
