A New Bank For Burnside
June 5, 2008
Amalgamated Bank has opened a branch at 94 E. Burnside Ave. On May 30, a ribbon cutting event was held to celebrate the occasion. The bank is replacing a Citibank branch that closed at the location last year.

According to Derrick D. Cephas, Amalgamated’s CEO, the new branch will offer a range of affordable banking products and services to local residents and merchants. The bank is working with the Citizens Advice Bureau to help residents repair bad credit ratings, and partnering with Davidson Community Center to give seminars to local businesses on how to prepare business plans and gain financing.
The East Burnside Avenue branch is Amalgamated’s fourth in the Bronx. “Amalgamated is a very special institution,” said Deputy Bronx Borough President Earl Brown, who attending the opening ceremony. “[They’re] making sure working people have a place to bank.”
